Ecuador: Some Observations Regarding the Yasuní-ITT Proposal

 The exploitation of the oil fields - located mainly although not entirely inside Yasuní national park, a global biodiversity ‘hotspot’ - has aroused some passionate opposition and a determined defense of the decision by the Ecuadorian government.

 

1. As some commentators have already pointed out, Yasuní National Park is hardly a pristine area. It has been explored and exploited for decades.
