House Republicans plan to float several bills to protect taxpayers from abuse by the Internal Revenue Service. Many of them appear to have merit. One legislative goal is to force the government to more clearly reveal how taxpayer money is being spent once it's collected.
This legislative offensive follows a year in which scrutiny of the IRS intensified. Among other things, the IRS admitted to improperly targeting conservative groups when they applied for tax-exempt status. The IRS probe delayed the approval of the applications.
The concern over information-sharing is based on Republican worries that the IRS will improperly share personal tax information with other agencies as it implements ObamaCare.
While the IRS connection to installing Obamacare is cause for concern, its connection with the Federal Reserve and the national debt is a bigger, broader concern that goes back to the year 1913.
