Commanders in the self-proclaimed army of renegade Libyan Gen. Khalifa Hifter have claimed credit for overnight airstrikes in the capital city of Tripoli, resolving the mystery of who was responsible.

Locals began reporting planes overhead and mysterious explosions late last night. The Hifter army, which has been launching a coup over the past months, has the support of much of Libya's former air force.

Adding to the questions, however, Gen. Hifter himself claimed the attacks were part of a "joint operation" between his troops and the international community, aiming to target Islamist-leaning militias.
