2014 Physics Gift Guide

• http://www.wired.com, By Rhett Allain

Perhaps the gift is for a physics friend, or maybe it's for yourself. Either way, I am going to list some of my favorite physics gift ideas.

Arduino. What is Arduino? It is a very low cost portable processor. You can program it with your computer and then have it run independently. What could you make with it? Really, just about anything. My 12 year old son made a series of LED lights that could make the different sides of a six sided dice. When you push a button, it would randomly give you lights from 1-6. Of course there are many other things you can do. You can connect sensors, motors, lights and other stuff. It's awesome and easy. If you want to get the arduino, could just order the processor. However, I recommend a starter kit like this. The kit comes with many different components as well as a book with instructions to get you started.

Books. Books make great gifts. They don't cost too much and when you are finished, you can share them. Everyone loves books. Here are just three book
