India's Achieves 4 GW Installed Solar Power Capacity

India's Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has reported that the country now has an operational solar power capacity of over 4 GW, with a significant jump caused by direct contributions from the country's National Solar Mission.

According to the data reported by MNRE, Rajasthan has now overtaken Gujarat as the state with the largest installed solar power capacity. Installed capacity in Rajasthan increased recently following commissioning of several projects under the National Solar Mission. Rajasthan now has an installed solar power capacity of 1.16 GW, or 29% of the total solar power capacity installed in the country. Gujarat has a share of 25% with 1 GW installed capacity. These two states have pioneered the development of solar power projects in India, with Gujarat's solar power policy predating the National Solar Mission, while several projects commissioned in Rajasthan also pre-date the first auction under the National Solar Mission.
