Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is an American electric maker primarily, but has recently been under the limelight for its brave moves to take on the lucrative energy storage market. The company recently unveiled a twin set of lithium-ion based energy storage products to power households and larger commercial buildings and is simultaneously investing billions of dollars to set up the world's largest lithium-ion battery plant in the state of Nevada.

However, a group of engineers and scientists linked with an energy storage startup UniEnergy Technologies (UET) that is backed by the US Energy Department, claim they have readied a viable competitor to Tesla's Powerpack (Tesla's industrial scale product) that costs far less to manufacture and has a significantly improved life, according to a report from Clean Technica.
