The NRA will fall. It's inevitable.
• Washington PostThe recent deadly shooting at an Oregon community college, like so many before it, isn't likely to lead to new federal laws designed to curb dangerous people's access to guns. While this understandably frustrates supporters of gun safety legislation, there is reason for them to be hopeful. The National Rifle Association's days of being a political powerhouse may be numbered.
Why? The answer is in the numbers.
Support for, and opposition to, gun control is closely associated with several demographic characteristics, including race, level of education and whether one lives in a city. Nearly all are trending forcefully against the NRA.
The core of the NRA's support comes from white, rural and relatively less educated voters. This demographic is currently influential in politics but clearly on the wane. While the decline of white, rural, less educated Americans is generally well known, less often recognized is what this means for gun legislation.

Setting us up for the big gun grab huh Adam? Saying its all so inevitable. Who do you work for the New York Times? Sure sounds like a pre-Iraq run up. Or pre-Syria run up, pre Lybia run up. Pre-anything run up the Times is so famous for when the bad guys want folks to think its oh so inevitable. My experience says just the opposite. The more educated, the smarter the individual, the more likely he/she is to support the NRA or GOA or any gun rights advocate. You conveniently omit that Obama has been the best gun salesman in history. Whats inevitable is the downfall of you neocons. People of all races and nationalities are getting smarter, more informed and they can plainly see who the REAL problem is. It sure ISN"T the gun rights folks. But you write well making people actually believe your lies are true. Does it make any sense to you? The people with the guns are going to take everyone else's guns away. The only people with guns will be the very people that start all the wars and when "the people" have no way to protect themselves it makes conquering "the people" oh so much easier. Hmmm, what's wrong with that picture.
