Spanish Police have confirmed they have shot dead Younes Abouyaaqoub, the suspected driver in the terrorist attack on Las Ramblas in Barcelona Thursday in an operation at Subirats, just outside the city. A bomb disposal unit has deploying a robot at the scene to inspect the suspicious device and the suspect's remains, police indicated. Local reports claim that police helicopters are searching the area for a suspected accomplice.
Meanwhile, according to local press, authorities have asked people in the area not to broadcast the location of checkpoints as the security operation is ongoing.
Update: Reuters reporst that according to Spanish police, they had "shot down" a person on Monday who appeared to be wearing an explosive belt and Spanish public television said the man was the suspected perpetrator of last week's Barcelona van attack. Catalan police declined to say if the man, shot in the area of Subirats, west of Barcelona, was dead or wounded.
