Journalist Owen Shroyer has been released from prison.

Shroyer reported to FCI Oakdale prison on October 24 to serve a 60-day sentence he was handed down in response to being on Capitol grounds on January 6, 2021. He did not enter the building, but prosecutors said to he violated a previous deferred prosecution agreement that forbade the journalist from using "loud, threatening, or abusive language, or to engage in any disorderly or disruptive conduct, at any place upon the United States Capitol Grounds."

Shroyer served 47 of this 60-day sentence, and spent much of the time in solitary confinement. The first stint, lasting around 5 days, was a result of the prison's Covid intake policies.

The second, which lasted much of the month of November, came in response to a phone call Shroyer placed with a friend to post on his X account, in which he thanked his followers for their support and letters during his time in prison.

Court documents stated that Shroyer had allegedly completed 30 of the 32 hours of community service required by the deferred prosecution agreement, which was reached in January of 2020 after he "shouted in a loud manner" in a December 2019 House Judiciary Committee hearing.

Shroyer released a video statement shortly after his release, thanking his followers for their support during his time in prison.
