Governments will lose power if they are not controlling the currency. Ver says that if Bitcoin were being spent as intended, governments would lose control over the money supply, which would increase people's freedom. He warns that a digital financial prison is being built with Bitcoin due to lack of privacy as transactions may be monitored. In El Salvador, where Bitcoin is the national currency, the government can see all transactions and can freeze accounts. CBDC is not needed if Bitcoin can be tracked and used to freeze accounts.

Roger Ver, 45, is an early investor in Bitcoin, Bitcoin-related startups and an early promoter of Bitcoin, and is sometimes known as 'Bitcoin Jesus'. Ver sold fireworks on eBay without a license and later pleaded guilty to a related felony charge; he served ten months in prison and then moved to Japan in 2005. He renounced his United States citizenship in 2014 after obtaining citizenship in Saint Kitts and Nevis. He was indicted in April 2024 for income tax evasion in the US.

Roger Ver is facing life in prison and says that the government is pursuing him because he revealed how the US government worked in secret to subvert cryptocurrency and prevent economic freedom.

Ver says that Bitcoin has been hijacked and has gone from an independent peer-to-peer platform that can compete with the US dollar and other world currencies, but is now a digital asset that people are speculating with. He wrote a book about it, Hijacking Bitcoin.
