President-elect Donald Trump held a press conference at Mar-a-Lago following Congress' certification of his re-election victory on Monday.

Trump spoke to a broad range of topics on Tuesday and introduced a few new issues he plans to tackle, including renaming the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America."

"We do most of the work there and it's ours," Trump said. "We're gonna be changing the name of the 'Gulf of Mexico' to the 'Gulf of America,' which has a beautiful ring…"

"That covers a lot of territory. The 'Gulf of America.' What a beautiful name. And it's appropriate. It's appropriate. And Mexico has to stop allowing millions of people to pour into our country."

"And we're going to put very serious tariffs on Mexico and Canada because Canada…they come through Canada too and the drugs that are coming through are at record numbers," he added.

Trump's proposal to rename the inlet that forms the coastline of five US states quickly gained support on social media.

"President Trump's second term is off to a GREAT start," wrote Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on X, adding, "I'll be introducing legislation ASAP to officially change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to its rightful name, the Gulf of America!"
