I place the words in italics to make a point about the interesting shift. It used to be that people on the Trump side – and even Trump himself – questioned the motives of the Left when the Left got upset about questions being asked.

Curiously, Trump was one of the people asking questions – and demanding answers – about this ugly Epstein business. Until that is, he got into a position that demanded answers. It's easy enough to raise questions from the outside. But when you're inside . . .

So now Trump want to move along. Those kids in Texas who drowned matter. Forget about the kids that may have been diddled by  . . . well, that is the question, isn't it?

Why would Trump want everyone to shut up and pretend there's nothing to see here or even to look into?  Two reasons come to mind.

The first is that Trump is "on the list" – which doesn't actually mean that, per se. It means he was involved in the diddling, as his now-enemy Elon Musk implied a few weeks back. Trump's recent behavior suggests this may be the case and so does his past behavior. A man in his early 70s (at the time) who talks about "grabbing women by the pussy" is a man who appears to think it's ok for a man to make unwanted physical advances. That is to say, assault women. It is one thing to hit on a woman; it is another to "grab" her – his words, remember –  "by the pussy."

Most men don't grab what isn't theirs. Especially "By the pussy." We may rue letting that slide.

If someone suggested Thomas Massie was a client of Epstein's it wouldn't have the ring of well, maybe to it. With Trump, it does because of things he's said – and done. He bragged about trying to fuck another man's wife. He has said he thinks his own daughter is "hot." His fulminating reactions lately are of a piece with a man who knows he did something wrong and embarrassing and doesn't want to discuss it. It's embarrassing enough that we know Trump was friendly with Epstein and snickered about how they both love beautiful women, especially young ones.

How young is the question Trump seems to want to avoid discussing.

This is also suggestive in that if Trump was having "relations" with young but legal-age women, it might be embarrassing but nothing more than that. So why hide it? Some might applaud the horny old goat if it turned out he was side-piecing a 23-year-old or several such. But the point is, that wouldn't be a crime and most people who are on the MAGA side probably wouldn't care because consenting adults and who cares what they do behind closed doors?
