SpaceX, Tesla, XAI and Boring Company Will Work on the Moon
• https://www.nextbigfuture.com, by Brian WangBoring Company, Prufrock-5, is the planned next-generation TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine). It described as the company's smartest, fastest, and safest yet, is already in production and expected to roll out operationally in early 2026. Key enhancements include advanced AI-driven controls for Ludicrous Mode (high-speed boring) and Axial Roll Override (precise alignment adjustments), enabling fully automated, continuous mining with zero people in the tunnel (ZPIT). It aims to lower costs to around $10 million per mile while maintaining the 12-foot diameter for efficiency in electric vehicle transport tunnels.
For lunar Boring Machines, the machines will need to be partially disassembled or modified so that they can be launched in two to four pieces so they can be launched to the moon. This will be after there is V4 Starship and after the NASA Artemis 3 mission to land human astronauts on the moon.
Without having to worry about permits, Boring Machines should be able to dig 2+ miles of tunnels each week and eventually a mile or two per day on the moon. The Boring Machines will need about two megawatts of power. Only at the poles would the Tesla bots and vehicles and Boring machines have constant sunlight to power solar and batteries generating power for the machines. Other places would have only 14 day operation with sunlight and then 14 days using stored battery power.
