Stardust Solutions, an Israeli Geoengineering Company, Aims to Cool the Earth with Tiny Particles
• Need to KnowStardust Solutions is an Israeli for-profit solar geoengineering company that was formed in 2023. Stardust claims that its sunlight reflective material can reflect significant amounts of the sun's rays with little or no damage to the atmosphere.
Stardust Solutions' geoengineering particles are made from amorphous silica, which is a food additive, and calcium carbonate, which is in eggshells and limestone. It claims the particles are biodegradable.
A report indicates that Stardust hopes to cool the atmosphere by 1.5 degrees Celsius or 34.7º Fahrenheit!
Solar geoengineering could alter weather patterns, impacting food production and economies, putting over 2 billion people at risk.
So far, the company has only tested the particles in the laboratory and says it would not test them outdoors unless it were in partnership with a government.
.Stardust CEO Yanai Yadveb speaks on being in a "position of power" to create a proprietary blend of sulfur dioxide particles, with the goal of bringing it to policymakers for government implementation. Future goals include predicting the weather. He said that the company aims to disperse particles that will form a protective layer to reflect sunlight away that will balance the warming effect.
