The Social Impact of Facebook in 2011

Facebook, the largest social network in the world may be doing more than just connecting friends and listing local concerts. In fact, facebooks impact on society goes far beyond meeting new friends and sharing music videos. Last year, a friend of my brother met a young lady at a local bowling alley. They spent a few hours together with a group of friends, bowling and eating. When the night came to an end, my brothers friend decided to ask the girl out to dinner. The girl replied, “I don’t go out with anyone unless I’m friends with them on facebook, so friend me on facebook!” Now, you may think she was trying to let him down gently without completely turning down his offer for dinner, but this was not the case. He actually took her out to dinner, after befriending her on facebook of course!
