Why Coloradans Must Stop the Destruction of the Poudre River

Re: " Cache la Poudre "most endangered" Booth/4/17 DP

“ Cache la Poudre River added to at risk list” Smith/4/17 RMN

The more people we add to Colorado the more we destroy the beauty and majesty of our mountain state.  Who benefits from destruction of our wild rivers? What final purpose to such growth?  Who wants more lanes added to I-70 when it will not solve the congestion?  Who wants to dam more rivers when it won’t solve our water shortages? Who wants more population when it will create more problems?

Humans must be the most arrogant species on the planet and the dumbest!

The Denver Post’s Michael Booth and RMN’s Jerd Smith wrote sobering reports on the destruction of the Cache la Poudre River.  They interviewed water managers like Brian Werner who said, “It’s a working river…won’t take away the need for the [dam] project.”

Why this river’s destruction?  Answer: unending population growth in Colorado!

Such a connotation of a ‘working river’ sickens anyone with a brain or understanding of preserving our wilderness.

“These rivers are at a cross point,’ said Garrett Russo, a spokesman for American Rivers. “To continue putting more and more straws in rivers and taking more water out without making substantive changes to the way we use water is not sustainable.”

The stupidest quote in the reports:  “The new reservoirs are crucial to serving 40,000 new residents in coming years.”

What about the fact that population experts project that Colorado will grow from 4.3 million to 9.77 million people—if we fail to move toward stable population policies?!  The reservoir(s) won’t be able to serve an added 1, 2, or 5 million more people.

When will we get down to brass tacks?  When will we face up to our population limits?  When will these reporters interview experts who bring realistic answers instead of temporary band-aid projects like dams? How about interviewing Governor Richard D. Lamm, Dr. Albert Bartlett, Fred Elbel, Mike McGarry, Jan Herron and other experts who understand we cannot keep growing?

We need to change the way we think in Colorado before we suffer irreversible consequences with unsolvable problems.  We need to face the fact that we must move toward a stable, sustainable population sooner or later.

How bad will it be if we allow this state to add five million people?  It will suck for all residents!  Every gridlock traffic problem today will magnify by millions of cars.  Every water crisis will explode beyond solving.  Our Brown Clouds over our cities will multiply in toxic consequences.

I challenges the DP and RMN and Smith and Booth to interview future thinkers and leaders who understand we cannot keep growing, but move toward a new paradigm that proves sustainable today and 100 years from now. Adding five or 10 or 100 million people will not work!  I challenge John Temple of the RMN and Dean Singleton to get off their intellectually lazy butts and address overpopulation in Colorado.  I challenge them to encourage stories that work toward a sustainable future instead of a ‘stupid’ future as shown in their support of damming the Cache la Poudre River.  It’s sheer stupidity and warrant-less.  A dam creates greater consequences in the future by inviting more unsustainable growth!

I invite any Colorado conferences, civic clubs and colleges to address the future with common sense and reasoned solutions.

We must implement smarter ideas and solutions such as: “Colorado Sustainable Population Policy”; “Colorado Carrying Capacity Policy”; “Colorado Environmental Impact Policy”; “Colorado Water Usage Policy”.  Thus far, our governor and state senate and house members remain oblivious—but we citizens pay the consequences that accelerate with every added person to this state.

If you are interested in changing this insane growth paradigm that will leave our state in physical and environmental mess, you are invited to book my program for your club, church, high school, college or political group. It’s non-partisan and compelling like nothing you’ve ever seen before:

Title of the presentation: “COMING POPULATION CRISIS for COLORADO/AMERICA: AND WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT”

The USA will double its population from 300 million to over 600 million sometime past mid century—if current growth rates continue.  It will add 100 million within 32 years by 2040.  Demographic predictions show Colorado adds five million people to the Front Range in the next 40 years. California will add 20 million within the next 30 years. Texas will add 12 million by 2025.  We are creating an irreversible crisis with unsolvable problems for our children.

Wooldridge began as a teacher in Brighton, Colorado since 1973 and is the author of seven books. He presents a powerful and compelling program to all audiences laced with humor, compassion and sense of optimism. Wooldridge has been a guest on hundreds of radio and TV programs across the United States.

As Eleanor Roosevelt said, "We must prevent human tragedy rather than run
around trying to save ourselves after an event has already occurred.
Unfortunately, history clearly shows that we arrive at catastrophe by
failing to meet the situation, by failing to act when we should have
acted. The opportunity passes us by and the next disaster is always more
difficult and compounded than the last one."

Final note:  I am looking for thinkers, writers and advocates to add to my monthly “Master Mind Think Tank.”   In reality, our politicians create the problems that they campaign to solve.  They never solve them; thus we spiral into deeper national chaos.   I need new ideas and new creative thinkers to help me bring our most pressing issues onto the front burner: overpopulation in America caused by ceaseless legal and illegal immigration.  As you know, the recent PEW report shows immigration adding 100 million people to our country in 30 years.  We need to stop it and we need to stop it now.  Join me in saving our civilization. frostyw@juno.com

Additionally: I am working on a book about loss of friendship.  Have you lost a best friend?  How did you feel?  How did it happen?  What caused the loss of your best friend?  How did it affect your life?  How did you heal from the emotional pain?  If you would like to write two to  five type-written pages, your story will be included in this forthcoming book with attribution or keep your name private.  Please state that you give permission for me to use your story in this book: “Losing Your Best Friend: Missing Pieces”.  Today, in America, our communities and friendships shatter because of misunderstandings, jealousies and high speed living.  This book will help others who have suffered the loss of a best friend.  frostyw@juno.com
