2. Political power; purpose of government

Section 2. All political power is inherent in the people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and are established to protect and maintain individual rights. --- Arizona CONstitution, Article 2, Section 2.

Government is about theft; plain and simple.  Government exists solely to rob you of your labor at the point of a gun. In order to insure compliance, an enormous apparatus to detect the fruits of your labor and to enforce government's ever increasing cut are constantly being expanded and refined.   Nowhere is this better illustrated of late than with photo enforcement of Arizona's roadways.

We had photo enforcement cameras put in place at red lights to "stop" red light runners.  Never mind that no camera has ever stopped a red light runner, much less issued them a ticket in a timely manner.  But it made us feel good that government was doing something about those red light runners.  And who other than a crazy libertarian anarchist wacko would argue with the wisdom of penalizing someone who clearly is violating agreed upon social expectations; namely that people WILL stop at red lights and yield the way for others.  The politicians know this.  They paid for surveys and studies to see how you would respond.  You would object to surveillance cameras set up along roadways, but going after evil scumbag red light runners . . .  why that is alright as far as you were concerned.

Of course, after you get used to those cameras -- that are actually doing nothing to prevent red light running -- the politicians wheel out the vans and the permanent cameras along the roadways.  "If it saves even one life...."  Of course it actually makes rear end accidents increase, but government's revenue potential is immediately apparent.  Photo enforcement is a gold mine!  At least for the foreign companies that lobby the politicians to implement it, who then export our wealth back to their homeland.  The insurance companies are all for it because they get to bump up your premiums when you get a speeding ticket.  And the politicians love it because it gives them more control over you.  And now the politicians look upon the traveling masses as an important new revenue source to help extend their stealing.

But did you know that those cameras are NOT snaping photographs?

No.  They are shooting video 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.  They can identify your license plate in real time and forward the video feed or information to cell phones or mobile laptops.  They can maintain a time and date database for EVERY car that passes by a lens as you travel around town.  A list of everywhere you go.  Every when you go.  And as the cost of these cameras continues to decrease and the rewards of the revenues being generated out of your wallet increases, you can bet every street corner will soon have a complete set of cameras operating.  Improvements in facial recognition technology combined with the biometric data demanded of you for your driver's license will soon allow you to be followed (and recorded) throughout your travel day regardless of what vehicle you may be in.  It's a Brave New World alright.

"God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ... And what country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure." --- Thomas Jefferson, November 13, 1787, letter to William S. Smith

Regrettably, no generation has put up any resistance to this looting that I can see.  Oh, perhaps the Southerners who resisted new taxes being imposed upon them by the Lincoln Administration.  Prior to that there was the first test of federal theft in the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794.  That is it. Every other generation chose -- some quite willingly -- to bend over and take it.

So we arrive at where we are today.  Fodder to be used and consumed by an ever ravenous maw of government.  Complaints are typically handled at three in the morning with corporate news live at six a.m. by an unquestioning parrot press.

The time still exists for peaceful action to oppose the cult of the omnipotent state.  Join me today at 4 P.M. to lift a  finger to the state.  Or, do what your parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents did and swallow.

"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty."
--- Thomas Jefferson
