Why Conservatives must be against torture…

Why Conservatives must be against torture…

Ronald Reagan, Newt, McCain, are just a few of the Conservatives all against Torture, but Obama wants to "Move On"...Why? --

While it is 100% true that some prominent major Democratic politicians guilty as sin, http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2009/04/24/democrats/index.html that is not a reason to cheer for their prosecution.  Yes it appears that Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, for example, was briefed several times about torture. But she did nothing to stop it or even to object.  If the facts come out even more, these Democratic politicians will look bad.

Ok, let me ask you a few questions.  First, I ask you to imagine that Barack Obama said the following about Bernie Maddoff , the Ponzi king who stole billions from investors…(1) Would you Agree with Obama?  (2) If yes, hold on!  When have you ever agreed with Obama?

"This is a time for reflection, not retribution.  I respect the strong views and emotions that these issues evoke. We have been through a dark and painful chapter in our history.  But at a time of great challenges and disturbing disunity, nothing will be gained by spending our time and energy laying blame for the past.  Our national greatness is embedded in America’s ability to right its course in concert with our core values, and to move forward with confidence.  That is why we must resist the forces that divide us, and instead come together on behalf of our common future.

"The United States is a nation of laws.  My administration will always act in accordance with those laws, and with an unshakable commitment to our ideals.  That is why we have released these memos, and that is why we have taken steps to ensure that the actions described within them never take place again."
- President Barack Obama

Ok, you know by now that speech was not about Bernie Maddoff.  But that changes nothing, right?  The principle is the same.  A crime is a crime is a crime. What Obama says above just simply WHITE WASHES the torture crimes of both top elite Democrats and guilty as sin Bush officials, yet for real conservatives that CHANGES NOTHING.  Obama is again wrong here as he is wrong on many issues.

Don’t tell me that you agree with Obama on ignoring the Torture issue?  Republican Dwight D Eisenhower, Barry Goldwater, Howard Taft, Ronald Reagan and even John McCain have come out squarely against torture.  Time and again, torture proves itself as a failure at getting real intelligence.   America does not need to torture to keep herself safe.  What she needs to do is up hold our laws and Constitution most of all.

If you are for torture as being for some retribution, well you have it backwards.  Retribution comes AFTER conviction.  With conviction you get your retribution.  Furthermore, real conservatives are very wary of giving this power over to the Washington.  As we all know all to well, all government power tends to grow and expand and as Ronald Reagan says, “never die”, so we must be real careful handing off this power.  In the hands of Obama or future liberals, this government power could be used against “domestic terrorists”.  We have already seen how the Clinton Administration burned alive the religious Christian people in Waco; --just imagine the fun they would have with the power to torture their political enemies  -- all under the claim of “Protecting National Security” of course.  All ready they fret about the grassroots “tea party” against government spending and taxes.  Watch lists are made, videos are taken and filed, and arrests are made easy now under the so called “Patriot Act” and “Military Commissions Act”.  Under those two acts alone, Martial Law can be declared, and we will find ourselves stripped of our 2nd Amendment rights faster than we can say “Barack Hussein Obama”.  Under Martial Law, with no second Amendment and the power to torture you and me, do you think anyone will hear yours screams as you gurgle?   Come on, you know what democrat & President LBJ did, right? LBJ unleashed the FBI to track “domestic dissidents” (right wingers), and even listened to tapes of Martin Luther King having sex.  With power, comes the use of power.  “If they can they will”, its as simple as that.

Real Conservatives need to demand that AMERICA never ever tortures and the way to do that is to prosecute those that made it all possible.  Real conservatives “Get off the train” as Shepard Smith and Judge Napolitano of Fox news says…. Video here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjCzfGm0njM

Here is Ronald Reagan on Torture:  From President Reagan's signing statement ratifying the UN Convention on Torture from 1984:

"The United States participated actively and effectively in the negotiation of the Convention. It marks a significant step in the development during this century of international measures against torture and other inhuman treatment or punishment. Ratification of the Convention by the United States will clearly express United States opposition to torture, an abhorrent practice unfortunately still prevalent in the world today.

The core provisions of the Convention establish a regime for international cooperation in the criminal prosecution of torturers relying on so-called 'universal jurisdiction.' Each State Party is required either to prosecute torturers who are found in its territory or to extradite them to other countries for prosecution."

Here is Newt Gingrich on Torture when he was Speaker of the House under Ronald Reagan.

The Speakers STATEMENT ON VISIT OF PRESIDENT JIANG
Washington, D.C. -- House Speaker Newt Gingrich released the following statement today following his meeting with Chinese President Jiang Zemin.

"As I said in China this spring, there is no place for abuse in what must be considered the family of man. There is no place for torture and arbitrary detention. There is no place for forced confessions. There is no place for intolerance of dissent." "While we walked through the Rotunda. I explained to President Jiang how the roots of American rule of law go back more than 700 years, to the signing of the Magna Carta. The foundation of American values, therefore, is not a passing priority or a temporary trend."

Here is John McCain 2008 on Torture:  “Water boarding is Torture…..Under President Reagan we passed Anti-torture Acts...Israelis do not use Torture…and if we use torture then we cannot differentiate ourselves from the enemy”.  Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34H24i7NGjY

The bottom line is that the Big Time Spending $800 Billion Taxpayer Bailouts to bankers - BUSH Administration under Cheney and Rumsfeld have lead Conservatives down the WRONG ROAD.  Why?  To save their own asses from the sling.  And because a lot and I mean A LOT of top democrats are as guilty as sin on the Torture issue, President Obama is going to release a few memos and MOVE ON.  He is going to White Wash this and the Attorney General of the US under Obama, who upon careful review of his record has no problem with torture, will also move this issue under the rug--- IF HE CAN.

So we conservatives must keep the heat on.  Long live the Constitution!  Long live our FREE Republic.
