On Monday the Kremlin disclosed that the fate of its military bases in Syria remains unclear and undecided, following the collapse of the Syrian government and Assad having fled the country on December 8.
While Western corporate media outlets present a picture of celebrations and parties in the street over the fall of Syria's Bashar al-Assad, the reality on the ground is a much different story.
The US has made "direct contact" with the group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) under Abu Mohammad al-Jolani which now holds Damascus and most major Syrian cities in the wake of Assad's fall.
Triumphant rhetoric in the corridors of Washington, DC celebrating the collapse of the Syrian government as a major victory over Russia is both foolish and short-sighted. I will explain.
