The first thing any Christian has to assimilate is that military service is a necessary evil. Our secular world requires it just to be able to exist. The military are trained to kill, that is what they do and they certainly seem to be very good at it. So you sign up to fulfill a duty to your country. you do it because you believe it is necessary to protect your country and its way of life. However many and perhaps the greatmajority of people think that military service is a goal on its own, something to be revered and sought after totally separate from the necessity of such service. I for one do not believe that learning to be an efficient killer is, or should be the main goal in anyone's life but then again I also don't believe in imperialism which requires soldiers to keep the populations of all other countries in line.
