you said "amending the immigration laws to fit reality" uhhhh we already allow millions to migrate to this country already every year. We allow more people to immigrate to this country every year than all the other countries combined.
When a person enters this country illegally, or becomes illegal after proper entry, he not only initially violates our laws - but continues to reviolate every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month of every year that he remains in this country. And that is just the BEGINNING of the laws he violates.

We tried amnesty in 1986 and look what it got us.
While I agree that we need a competent worker program (without the mistakes and fraud of the old Brasero Program) to allow illegal to remain in this country and give them another amnesty is a fools mistake. The Arizone law makes it a criminal trespassing offense for illegal aliens to be in this State - and if enforced it will drive out many who are already here.
Their problems are of their own doing.
