3 Girls Dead, Others Hospitalized After Gardasil HPV Vaccine
• www.activistpost.comFollowing controversy over U.S. state legislatures requiring young girls to take Gardasil, Merck’s vaccine for human papillomavirus (HPV), a number of severe side effects have been observed along with the recent deaths of 3 young girls.

I hate to reply to old articles, but somebody blogged about this one today, so here goes.
The article's main reference, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1889933, is now six years old. The "3 recent deaths" it refers to seem to be the three VAERS reports Judicial Watch wrote about in May 2007 in its press release http://www.judicialwatch.org/press-room/press-releases/judicial-watch-uncovers-three-deaths-relating-hpv-vaccine. They presented no evidence that these deaths were due to the vaccine.
I tallied all the VAERS reports of deaths associated with HPV vaccination from the vaccine's introduction through January 2012, and of the 36 reported deaths within the 50 United States plus the District of Columbia, only 22 of them didn't have likely non-vaccine causes... and there was no obvious pattern linking the 22 deaths. You can see the data at http://hpv.kegel.com/safety/vaers.html.
Furthermore, five studies of about 700,000 vaccinated women have found no significant increased heath risks from HPV vaccination; see .
And finally, Australia and Denmark (areas with very effective national vaccination campaigns for girls) are reporting that, amongh the core vaccinated age groups, HPV-caused genital warts have been nearly wiped out, and Australia is reporting that positive pap smears are down 50 percent among this group. (See http://hpv.kegel.com/faq for links to the data.)
So it seems the evidence shows this vaccine is safe and effective in practice, just as it was during clinical trials.
If you still want to object to the vaccine, fine, but please don't claim it's unsafe or ineffective.
