How Did Christians Become Warmongers?
Chuck BaldwinHistorically, Christians have always attempted to be–and have always publicly taught the importance of being–peacemakers. Have not Christians preached–and tried to practice–love and brotherhood? The early church was born in a baptism of love and unit

The people who call themselves Christians these days do so on the basis that they believe in a story in a book or because they meet together with people who agree with them. Practically none of them have had the experience called "being born again." The fact that most of them are warmongers should be no surprise when you consider that they have been murdering and enslaving their fellow humans for around 2,000 years in the name of their Jesus. They have found it easy to convert the transformative message of Christ into a religion.
Chuck, you are right, of course. There are loads of Bible passages that I am reminded of from your writing, that might help to explain all this. Let me comment in one small/big area.
One of the 5 speakers in the book of Job in the Bible - the last speaker (besides the little discourse Job had with God at the end of Job) - is a guy by the name of Elihu. I have always had the feeling that this Elihu, guy, was not part of the actual conversation, but added his thoughts at a later date. He may have been a scribe who was copying the book of Job, perhaps even before it became part of the Bible, and added his wise two cents worth. Please note that the book of Job does not say it this way. Job says it like Elihu was an actual listener to the debate that Job had with his three friends.
Whatever the truth may be, one of the things that Elihu said - a thing that is crucially important for us today, more than for Old testament "Christians," and more than New Testament Christians of other times - is this. Elihu said about God, Job 34:14,15 (NIV):
14 If it were his intention
and he withdrew his spirit and breath,
15 all humanity would perish together
and mankind would return to the dust.
This reminds us that, completely different than the animals, people live and exist because we have the SPIRIT OF GOD within us. The reason we die is because the SPIRIT OF GOD cannot change, and neither can He be coerced. Even we, His children, cannot change Him. The best we can do in life is to walk humbly with our God. We die because we try to change the essence of the Spirit of God within us, even though we often know not what we are doing or realize that we are doing it.
Micah 6:8 (NIV):
8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
To move along towards my point in all this, has there ever been any time in history when there have been as many nations as there are today, with a so gigantically large world population? NO! NEVER! God told Adam and Eve, and later Noah and his wife along with Noah's sons and their wives, to be fruitful and multiply and fill (replenish?) the earth. And we see it being done all over the world today, with tremendous vigor.
Now, put all of the above together to see my point. Throughout the world the presence of God is here, in the form of mortal man, Christian or non-christian, believer or unbeliever. And God's patience, through Jesus His Son the Messiah, with our fighting against God - whether we are fighting Him intentionally, or unintentionally as a result of our fallen nature - is greater than ever.
The thing is, THE SPIRIT OF GOD IS HERE in the form of mortal man, more than ever before. Did you catch that? GOD IS HERE.
The return of Jesus GOD is imminent. It is so extremely imminent that it is right on top of us. The flowering Spirit within man is reaching out to God like the flowers of the field reach towards the sun after the clouds and rain pass by.
Does this mean that the people will change their ways and become followers of Jesus so that they can be saved? Does this mean that people will take His Spirit that abides within them, and reach out for God in the prescribed way any more than people of other ages? No! People will always go their own presumptuous way in life, just as they always have.
Yet, God is One. So His Spirit is One. And the impending return of Jesus is causing a growing of God's Spirit in humans, and a magnet-like drawing of His Spirit together, no matter how humans attempt to pervert and coerce the spirit of God within themselves.
The return of Jesus God is virtually here. And the nations of the world - call they themselves Christians, or by some other name - are drawing up their battle lines to fight Him, even though they know not what they do.
If you want to be on the winning side, patiently remain on course with Him. Continue "to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God," humbly in your faith in the saving grace that comes through Jesus. If you don't, you will wind up being destroyed in the lake of fire that has been prepared for the devil and his angels. No threat. Just FACT.
I commented on this article days ago by answering the question the title asks. My comment has not appeared on the site yet. Why?
