The whole idea behind Christianity and the Messiah (the Christ) is the idea of forgiveness for wrongs done.

The whole idea behind forgiveness is repentance... repentance, first in the recognition of wrongdoing, second in the recognition of forgiveness, and third in changing of the ways, however imperfect that changing of the ways might be.

If there is sincere, or even reasonably sincere, changing of wrong doings to right doings (repentance), and there is acceptance of forgiveness by Christ (Messiah) for the wrong done (repentance), that is true Christianity.
