Ron Paul to speak in Phoenix,Tempe this week

U.S. Congressman Ron Paul, a Libertarian hero and former Republican presidential candidate, will speak at Phoenix and Tempe forums this week.

Paul, R-Texas, will address students at Arizona State University on Friday and will be the keynote speaker Saturday at the inaugural Arizona Campaign for Liberty State Convention at ASU. Also on Saturday, Paul will speak in Phoenix at the Freedom Summit, where radio personality Charles Goyette is scheduled to appear.

Paul's appearances come as Libertarians work to promote their ideas to a growing number of voters who are frustrated with the major parties' handling of the economy, military combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and other U.S. strategies.

"There's a huge dissatisfaction with the established political parties and the narrow mainstream point of view," said Joe Cobb, treasurer for the Arizona Libertarian Party. "We want to be that voice of protest and tell people what we stand for."

A Thursday documentary screening of For Liberty will spotlight Paul's 2007-2008 presidential campaign and the grassroots to bizarre tactics used to propel Paul and the Libertarian platform into the national arena.
