Russia says new EU sanctions on Iran "unacceptable"

• Reuters

Russia condemned new EU sanctions on Iran on Tuesday, tempering hopes of closer cooperation between Moscow and the West over Iran's nuclear program.

EU foreign ministers on Monday approved a range of extra restrictions on Iran that went well beyond U.N. sanctions agreed last month. They included a ban on dealing with Iranian banks and insurance companies as well as steps to prevent investment in Tehran's lucrative oil and gas sector.

What’s the point anyway in arguing which sanction and whose sanction is it when all these are leading to war? It is just a matter of time.

Collective sanctions [UN] and individual state sanctions [U.S. and EU] – what’s the difference? To Ahmadinejad – none … nada! To both sanctions, this Maniac of Iran won’t budge anyway. Russia just don’t want to be mistaken as Washington when it was caught and exposed doing business with Iran in spite of the imposition of economic sanctions.

The problem is, Russia still thinks it is smarter than the West. In the world forum, Russia, like a wily fox, had aligned itself with U.S. and EU in meting out sanctions of Iran for the latter’s uranium development and nuclear-bomb production stupidity, but when U.S. and EU imposed additional restrictions in addition to UN sanctions, specifying a ban on dealing with Iranian banks, insurance companies and investment in Teheran’s lucrative oil and gas resources, it hit hard Russia’s clandestine business interest in Iran.

To those U.S. and EU sanctions imposed outside of the UN Security Council framework, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has a lot of blah-blah explaining why Moscow is opposed, as if the world is mentally retarded.

So my advice is, don’t be misled. Nursing its own frustration with regards to U.S.-EU sanctions, you know why Russia is kicking the bucket.
