Therefore, I was ineluctably led into a deep study of Islamic theology and into an examination of what constitutes justice in Islam. I was also intrigued by Bernard Lewis’ work, which so effectively laid out “what went wrong” in the Islamic world without exactly telling us “why” it went wrong.
