Today, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is expected to leave the hospital she has been receiving medical care from. She will be transferred from the Arizona hospital she is currently staying in to a rehabilitation facility in Texas.
Since being shot in the head on Jan. 8, Rep. Giffords has made good progress towards her recovery at the University Medical Center in Tucson. On Wednesday, Giffords reportedly stood for the first time and even flipped through photos on an IPad with her husband, sources claim. [1]
Giffords will be evaluated at the TIRR Memorial Hermann level-one trauma center when she arrives in Texas. Depending on the results of the evaluation, Giffords will then be transferred to a specialized unit for treatment. The hospital frequently treats patients who have suffered from brain injury. [2]
We all wish Rep Giffords a speedy recovery. Good thing she has that sweet health insurance package only for Congress that we pay for but don't deserve ourselves.
