India’s patent appeals board, the Intellectual Property Appellate Board has denied American company Monsanto Co. a patent for a genetically-engineered method of increasing climate resilience in plants. The Board states that the technology is a discovery of a new property of known substance and does not qualify as an invention under the Indian Patent Act.
