On Monday the Supreme Court decided against hearing a case dealing with a journalists right to protect their sources, declaring that the fourth amendment offers journalists no special protection. The New York Times attempted to appeal a 2013 decision by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals which would require reporter James Risen to testify in an upcoming trial dealing with leaked information published in his book "State of War". U.S prosecutors believe former CIA officer Jeffrey Sterling provided Risen with classified information. Sterling has been indicted on charges ranging from unauthorized retention and communication of national defense information.
