Ross Ulbricht denied charges of money laundering, stating that bitcoins are not money. US District Judge Katherine Forrest disagreed, stating that money could be laundered using the online cryptocurrency. Judge Forrest said Ulbricht played the role of "intermediary" between website users, "acting as a sort of godfather". Ulbricht is facing four counts of conspiracy, including engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise which carries a maximum sentence of life behind bars. The trial is scheduled to begin on November 3rd.
