A former Egyptian Interior Minister has claimed the United States was warned by Egypt of attacks several times before September 11, 2001, and that the US was responsible for the 2011 Egyptian Revolution. Habib El-Adly served under former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
Speaking at his retrial in Cairo, Egypt, El-Adly stated that Egypt received information in May 2001 regarding an impending attack. He said the CIA and FBI were both contacted. These statements corroborate a report by the Associated Press from December 7, 2001 where Mubarak claims to have warned the U.S. of an attack.
Ahram Online reports that El-Adly also stated the US had a two part plan to covertly overthrow the Egyptian government. He claims the Egyptian government was told to accept a democratic model and financial incentives or be accused of being dictators. El-Adly said the US worked to mobilize the youth to revolt and create a revolution.
