Carson took on Donald Trump's stance on the issue that sent Trump to the top of the polls, illegal immigration.
"Rounding up 11 million people and deporting them, you know it may sound good to some people, but that's not pragmatic," Carson said before walking on stage.
Several people at the rally said Carson's stance is "common sense."
Trump's deportation plan has been estimated to have a price tag as high as $200 million. It's money Carson says the U.S. doesn't have.
"We're borrowing money from China in order to give it to Pakistan," he said. "That doesn't make any sense."
Carson says he wants to close the border, but says the border surrounds the entire country, not just the south.
Carson's solution is a guest-worker program that includes paying taxes and a back-tax penalty. He said it's not amnesty and would still require the current process to become citizens.
