ESPN's FiveThirtyEight launching a presidential documentary series

FiveThirtyEight, the ESPN-owned news site which emphasizes data over political punditry, is launching a documentary series called "FiveThirtyEight Elections."

The six-part series, which will be produced by ESPN Films, will focus on famous moments from presidential campaigns. Each film will be supplemented by a podcast, as well as feature stories.

The first film is called "Dean Scream," and tells the story behind former Vermont governor (and onetime Democratic presidential contender) Howard Dean's now-infamous scream at a speech following the 2004 Iowa Caucus. It will be posted on FiveThirtyEight tomorrow. You can watch a preview here.

FiveThirtyEight's Nate Silver and Harry Enten appear in the Howard Dean film, as does Dean himself, former Iowa senator Tom Harkin, Dean's former campaign manager Joe Trippi, communications director Tricia Enright and filmmaker Rob Reiner.

Future films will focus on Michael Dukakis and the tank photo-op that some argue derailed his 1988 campaign. Also coming is a film examining the relationship between President Barack Obama and reverend Jeremiah Wright, and the speech Obama gave to distance himself from his former pastor.
