Edward Snowden might be living in exile in Russia, but he's raking in the dough back home.

The former National Security Agency worker collected over $200,000 in speaking fees in the US during the last year, according to a new report from Yahoo News.

Snowden's American lawyer defended the payments to his client.

"There is nothing remotely improper about Edward Snowden making a living by speaking to global audiences about surveillance and democracy," ACLU lawyer Ben Wizner told Yahoo.

"I can assure you he will pay all taxes that he might owe," Wizner added, saying his client is "not getting rich off public speaking."
