Carles Puigdemont's lawyer says the former Catalan president is in "perfect shape, both physically and emotionally" and will await with "courage and determination" the German judicial decision on whether to extradite him to Spain.

Speaking to reporters outside the prison in Neumuenster, where the separatist politician is jailed pending a German tribunal's decision, attorney Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas said Puigdemont remains energetic and "very clear in his courage and determination not to falter defending the ideals he represents."

Alonso-Cuevillas said that "to see him with such determination has been a shot of euphoria."

He added that Puigdemont welcomed the acceptance by the U.N. Human Rights Committee this week to review his complaint for the alleged violation of his political rights by Spain.
