A fisherman in the Maldives was left stunned after he cut open the giant trevally fish he'd caught and found them filled with plastic and other rubbish.   

A shocking video shows a fisherman named Siruhaan slicing open the dead fish and pulling out several empty cartons.   

He recorded the horrifying video after catching giant trevally fishes for food, only to find them full of plastic.

The giant trevally fish hunts other marine life, which may have contributed to the plastic in its stomach. 

He said: 'This is one of the major global issues now. Discarding things into the ocean affects all living creatures.

'We see this more often now than in the past. Many people are shocked and feel sad about it here.

'There needs to more awareness of this issue and we must reduce our plastic use as well properly disposing of our rubbish rather than dumping it in the ocean.'
