The film is Eastwood's 39th as a director, while also starring as one-time rodeo star Mike Milo in the film, which is set in 1979.

The film follows Milo as he takes a job from an old boss to bring his young son Rafo (Eduardo Minett in his feature film debut) home from Mexico.

The trailer begins with Mike's old boss Howard (Dwight Yoakam) talking about Mike's glory days, saying he was, 'afraid to lose you to the competition' as we see photos and ribbons from his rodeo days.

Howard adds that he won the All-American five times, but, 'that was a long time ago, wasn't it? That was before the accident, before the booze. You know how many people told me to just cut you loose?'

We then get our first look at both Howard and Mike, with Howard plainly stating, 'Well are you gonna say anything?'

'Howard, I've always thought of you as a small, weak, and gutless man. But you know, there's no reason to be rude,' Mike says.

Howard tells Mike that he still owes Mike and that he gave him his word, 'and that used to mean something.'

Howard explains that his son Rafael is in trouble in Mexico and he wants to get him out, which Mike asks, 'You want me to go down there and kidnap him?'
