'We can't keep up, but we want to join in the fun':

A clever couple thought of a very simple way to avoid competing with their neighbors' dazzling Christmas display while making minimal effort.

Auryn Kucheran's Christmas display in Warman, Saskatchewan City, Canada, leaves neighbors breathless every year. But for 2021, next-door neighbors Chris Boechler and partner Mandie Scrivens came close to upstaging their friend by erecting a simple sign saying 'Ditto', with a yellow arrow pointing next door.

The couple said: 'We knew we can't keep up with them, but we want to join in the fun,' to explain their idea.

Kucheran's decorations involve 15,000 lights, and a special movie screen onto which he beams favorite festive films, with neighbors able to make requests via Facebook.

And he is delighted by Boechler and Scriven's affectionate tribute to his hard work, with the clever complimentary displays making headlines around the world.

'It's a winter wonderland. He works so hard on it and just brightens up everyone's mood around the block,' Chris told CBC News.

'I think I am lucky to have a neighbor like that. There is a lot of people who don't get into the Christmas spirit and it's nice to have someone who does,' he added.

Chris and Mandie were initially worried that Auryn was not going to find their clever decoration funny at all.
