Kirkpatrick gives an explanation about why insurance policies were pulled from over 1 million homeowners just weeks before the fires. He said that State Farm was overexposed, and if something happened, a shortfall could cost the company billions. Because California homes appreciate so quickly, as much as 7% per year, payouts by insurance companies have also risen. He identified the California Department of Insurance as the cause of the cancellations because the agency refused to allow insurance companies to raise their rates in line with soaring property values. He noted that the office of the Insurance Commissioner is an elected position.  

Mr. Kirkpatrick said that he intended to hire fewer white people and more Hispanics and Latinos as the company moves toward a workforce to fit 2040 demographics. He showed a bias against his "own kind" and has been fired.
