Mattel has introduced a new Barbie doll that portrays a Type 1 diabetic, complete with an insulin pump and glucose monitor. This addition aims to provide representation for young people with diabetes.

The new brunette Barbie is part of a series addressing criticisms about inclusivity, following the release of dolls with various disabilities. Mattell has previously released a blind Barbie, Barbie with Down's syndrome, Barbie with hearing aids, Barbie in a wheelchair and Barbie with a prosthetic limb.
