Trump gambles with bold FBI shake-up after Epstein feud

• By KATELYN CARALLE and BRITTANY CHAIN

Missouri's Attorney General Andrew Bailey revealed that he was brought on as Director Kash Patel's co-deputy alongside Dan Bongino.

It comes as reports that Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI leadership were at odds over the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files review.

Current Deputy Director Bongino threatened to leave the bureau in the fallout of the Epstein files memo that left MAGA supporters furious over a lack of transparency. Others claimed that a cover-up was afoot.

Bongino decided to stay on.

And White House and FBI insiders tell the Daily Mail that he thinks there is 'still work to be done' as co-deputy.

Patel and Bongino have been under immense pressure following a decision by Attorney General Pam Bondi to not release the Epstein files and mass departures at the agency.

The new installment of Bailey has raised questions over whether Bongino is halfway out the door and if Trump still has confidence in his abilities as FBI deputy.

But White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the volume or work needed to crack down on crime is why Bongino is getting help.

'When you're actually working and enforcing law and order, you need all hands on deck,' Leavitt said.

The DOJ pointed to Leavitt's comments when reached by the Daily Mail's request for comment on the new staffing at FBI.

Bailey has been recognized as a 'decorated war veteran' who made sweeping changes during his time in Missouri.

In the role, he launched an anti-human trafficking task force and addressed more than 1,100 cases in the state.

He also worked through the backlog of Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence (SAFE) kits, improving the prosecution rates for sexual assault cases in the state.

During his time as Missouri Attorney General, Bailey's office saw a spike of 133 percent in trial court criminal prosecutions.

'I am proud to announce I have accepted the role of Co-Deputy Director of the FBI,' Bailey wrote on X Friday evening.

'I extend my thanks to [Trump] and [Attorney General Pam Bondi] for the opportunity to serve in the mission to Make America Safe Again,' he continued in the post. 'I will protect America and uphold the Constitution.'
