US State Department Group Admits the "Gaza Famine Is Real!"
• By AntiWar and the Jimmy Dore ShowThe Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS Net), which has historically been funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), but is now funded by the US State Department, issued a report on August 22, the same day as the United Nations IPC report, stating that famine is ongoing in the Gaza Governorate, which includes Gaza City.
The reports attribute the crisis directly to Israeli policies blocking aid and restricting food, with findings based on stringent surveys and data, including child malnutrition measurements. US officials and Israeli leaders nevertheless continue to deny responsibility.
The report noted the killing of Palestinians near aid distribution sites run by the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. "Over 700 deaths linked to the distribution of aid were reported across the Gaza Strip in July alone, including 390 in or near GHF distribution sites in the south," FEWS Net said.
