Government Shutdown May Cause Cancelation of Food Stamps for 42 Million Americans

SNAP is already set to be reduced as Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" made significant changes to SNAP food stamps, including stricter eligibility requirements and new work mandates that could lead to millions losing benefits. This policy begins on November 1, 2025. Many individuals, including older adults and parents of teenagers, will need to prove work or training to maintain their SNAP benefits.

SNAP is used for school lunches. 

If SNAP is paused and/or removed, it will affect grocery store sales, farmers and the trucking industry and will likely inflate food prices. 

Some SNAP recipients are threatening to steal from grocery stores if their benefits are removed. 

Church food pantries, located everywhere in our nation, are another source of food for people in need.

The government shutdown is causing concerns that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, commonly known as food stamps, may be halted in some states starting November 1, 2025, if the shutdown continues.
