Quantum Events in Neurons May Explain Consciousness
• https://www.linkedin.com, David SteenhoekTheir idea suggests the brain may do more than classical information processing. It may involve deeper physical processes at microscopic scales too.
The focus is on microtubules, structural components inside cells that help maintain shape and transport materials. Orch OR proposes these structures also support Quantum superpositions. In the theory, when these superpositions collapse in specific ways, a moment of conscious awareness occurs. Your flowing experience would then be a rapid sequence of such events happening again and again.
For years, many researchers believed delicate Quantum coherence could not survive in warm biological systems. Later discoveries challenged that assumption. Quantum effects have been studied in bird navigation, photosynthesis, and some sensory processes. These findings do not prove Orch OR directly, but they show biology can sometimes use subtle physics unexpectedly in nature.
Supporters also point to research involving anesthesia. If consciousness depends partly on microtubule processes, then anesthetic molecules affecting those structures could matter. Some recent studies have explored that possibility and found interesting correlations. Still, correlation is not final proof. Mainstream neuroscience has not accepted Orch OR as established fact, and many experts remain skeptical of key assumptions today.
Consciousness clearly depends strongly on the brain, yet the full explanation remains incomplete. Orch OR is one ambitious attempt to bridge physics and subjective experience. It may be right, partly right, or wrong. But serious debate around it shows something important: the mystery of awareness is still open, and science is still searching.
Thank you Quantum Cookie — Core of the Theory Sir Roger Penrose (mathematical physicist) and Stuart Hameroff (anesthesiologist) proposed Orch OR in the mid-1990s. It suggests that consciousness arises not solely from classical neural firing and synaptic computation, but from quantum computations in microtubules—hollow cylindrical polymers of tubulin proteins inside neurons (and other cells). These microtubules provide structural support and intracellular transport but, per the theory, also enable quantum coherence and superposition among tubulin subunits (via electric dipoles or aromatic ring interactions in "quantum channels").

Genesis chapters 1-3 explain it simply. God made mankind in His own image. Consciousness is only part of the answer. | God, in making mankind, was creating a Bride for Christ, His only begotten Son. Look through both OT and NT (the Bible), and read about the Bride of Christ. We Christians aren't there yet, but we will be in Heaven, following the Resurrection. If you aren't a Christian, become one, and let God make you into part of Jesus's Bride, everlasting life.
