Gunfire reportedly erupted near the White House on Monday, causing a lockdown and evacuation of press gathered on the north lawn.

CNBC Washington correspondent Megan Cassella posted to social media, "U.S. Secret Service just evacuated us from our camera position at the White House north lawn. We're now gathering in the briefing room. No indication as to what's going on."

Soon after, several outlets and ???? users posted that there were "gunshots fired" at 15th and Independence, right by the Washington Monument and about a mile from the White House itself.

The Daily Mail quoted a spokesman from Secret Service who said, "One individual was shot by law enforcement; their condition is currently unknown. Please avoid the area as emergency crews are responding.

President Trump later started speaking to hundreds of small business owners for the small business summit, showing Secret Service found the situation safe enough for POTUS to carry on with the day's agenda.
