Ruminations of a Baby Boomer: Do We Want To Defund Our Police?

Part 11: Displacing police departments, rule of law, chaos

Recently, anarchists and city councils from Minneapolis to New York City called for disbanding police departments.  Let's allow the criminals to roam free to loot, burglarize, burn, steal cars, break into stores, rob banks and whatever else their hearts desire.

On social media:

When police departments are defunded:

Caller: "Help! Someone is trying to rape me."

911 Operator answers:  "Stay calm ma'am.  We are sending you our thoughts and prayers for a better day tomorrow."

Also, on social media, a response to defunding police departments across the United States!  It shows how fast we would degrade into a barbaric civilization.  Without the 'rule of law', America would become a jungle-driven nightmare.  Again, I can't begin to show you what happened to Detroit, Michigan—but you would have to be totally out of your cotton-picking mind to want Detroit's fate in every American city.

But that's what you would receive if police departments were disbanded or neutered beyond any power to police the bad guys.  What you saw in those riots would be commonplace without the police.  That's pretty sad statement as to how nasty a certain percentage of our citizenry conduct themselves, but that's what you get in a multicultural and diversity-saturated civilization.  Again, some cultures simply steal and loot as a cultural value.  It's proven daily with $25 million shoplifted out of mercantile stores nationwide—every day of the year.

On FB:  When law enforcement vanishes, all manner of violence breaks out: looting, settling old scores, ethnic cleansing, and petty warfare among gangs, warlords and mafias.  This was obvious in the remnants of Yugoslavia, the Soviet Union, and parts of Africa in the 1990's, but can also happen in countries with a long tradition of civility.  Look at what's happening to Sweden as it's crashing into criminal chaos along with Oslo, Norway. It's not their citizens, but their immigrants.  As a young teenager in proudly peaceable Canada during the romantic 1960's, I was a true believer in the Bakunin's anarchism.  I laughed off my parents' argument that if the government ever laid down its arms, all hell would break lose.  Our competing predictions were put to the test on October 17, 1969, when the Montreal police went on strike. By 11:20 a.m., the first bank was robbed. By noon, most downtown stores had been closed because of looting. Within a few more hours, taxi drivers burned down the garage of a limousine service that had competed with them for airport customers. A rooftop sniper killed a provincial police officer. Rioters broke into hotels and restaurants, and a doctor slew a burglar in his home.  By the end of the day, six banks had been robbed, a hundred shops had been looted, twelve fires had been set, 40 carloads of storefront glass had been broken and three million dollars in property damage had been inflicted—before city authorities had to call in the army, and of course, the Royal Canadian Mounties to restore order. This decisive empirical test left my politics in tatters.

If you look to Antifa for help, you would find yourself in a war zone with no way out.  Their only purpose remains to destroy American society, period.

What would happen after the U.S. Constitution was totally negated by the lack of the police, National Guard and/or our Armed Forces?  Answer—total breakdown of American society.  If you want to see that happen, just support those who want to defund or dismantle police forces across America.  Then, we could look like Venezuela or Africa or El Salvador.

Does that kind of a future interest you?  Why do you think millions around the world beg to come to America?
