We All Need A Little Help; Some of Us Need a Lot of Help

In this chaotic, confused, high speed, and volatile world—we all need a little help.  We need a friend. We need a parent. We need community. We need safety. We need comfort. We need peace of mind.

Over the past 20 years, a lot of people have written me for guidance, help with something, or a plea to address a social wrong.  Sometimes, I can steer them in the right direction. At other times, I am as helpless as their situation.

Today, a reader wrote me:

Good afternoon, Frosty,

I listen to you regularly on the radio and I read your columns.  Several years ago on the show, you mentioned that your wife has Alzheimer's and you had compiled a list of books, remedies, etc. to help people in this situation.

I recently learned that an acquaintance has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and I wanted to share your research with her.  I didn't see a link for it and wondered if you would be kind enough to email this information to me.

Thank you for sharing your inspiring life with your readers and listeners.  Sincerely, S.S.

I sent her my protocol and book list to help solve Alzheimer's.  Ironically, at the same time, as a research journalist, I turn over every rock, twig, leaf and blade of grass to find any "cures" or "advancements" that might help my wife's recovery. Dozens of people have recovered.  The biggest thing is to get out in front of the disease for your loved ones.  The book titles I sent her give her a knowledgable understanding and procedures to follow. I've sent that four page paper out to hundreds of people.

I wrote back to S.S: Today, my wife Sandi went into Regen Revolution, www.regenrev.com , in Arvada, Colorado (just outside Denver)  for her first of three visits to have an IV infusion of Nano Xsomes cells into her body.  Another friend of mine at church said his wife responded to this therapy with some amazing results.  It is rather pricey, so we took money out of our savings account.  We've saved a lifetime, so we're spending the money for her health.  If she responds well in the coming months, I can give you some feedback.  Very best to you and yours, Frosty

You've all watched the Tunnel to Towers (t2t.org) financial requests for our wounded soldiers/their families, and first responders.  I give to them because they are the reason for our freedoms, and/or our safety in the aftermath of 9/11 and other horrific events. The one thing I understand stems from the fact that we Americans are all in this life together.  We need to help each other as much as possible.

One of the most painful aspects of American life hurts me daily because we've got an estimated 773,000 homeless Americans wandering through the streets of our cities, in camps, in the woods and worse.  It's painful to see them at intersections in Denver with rags, sullen faces, dirty bodies, and totally hopeless lives.  I've bicycled through San Francisco and Los Angeles to see over 200,000 homeless in their tarp tents, needles, alcohol, defecating on the streets, aimless, filthy and living meaningless lives.

I wish Elon Musk, Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, and another 100 billionaires would form conferences and create solutions with their hundreds of billions of dollars.  How much money do you need before it becomes ridiculous to be a modern day, "Robber Baron"?   We really need the BIG MONEY people in our country to address our problems: food scarcity for 1 out of 6 American children, drug addiction—its causes and cures, illiteracy of our citizens into the tens of millions, the ongoing killings across our nation, and my bet is, you could name another dozen problems that need solving.

We each can do a little to make our society better.  I remember one of my four trips down the West Coast on my bicycle. One couple pulled over next to me at a rest stop in a fancy Cadillac. The husband wanted to take a picture with me with my loaded bike in front.  His wife snapped a picture. They said, "Thank you", and the husband slapped, what I thought was a $10.00 bill into my hand, and said, "Have lunch on me."  I stuffed the $10.00 bill into my jersey pocket.  Within a short time, sweat soaked me, so I took the $10.00 bill out of my pocket to discover it was $100.00 (Ben Franklin).  I suspect a $100.00 bill was a penny to him. What did I do? I broke it down to $10.00 bills and gave the next 10 homeless people I met on the Pacific Coast Highway $10.00 so they could buy some food to eat.

The one thing I've discovered in my world bicycle travels…is the fact that not everyone enjoys an equal chance, and many arrive on this planet in dire circumstances. I try not to judge.  I've found that most people are doing the best they can to live this life. They love their families, their kids, and their communities.  Many fall to the terrors of drugs, alcoholism, aimlessness and violence.  God help all of them.

Another thing that I do is give to environmental groups that are doing good things in the world. I have given annually to www.savetheredwoods.org because I have traveled through the "Avenue of the Giants" in northern California, and I have slept among those 2,500 year old living beings. There's only 2 percent of them left, so I want them all saved from the lumberman's chain saw.

Since I've been a scuba diver for over 60 years, I've seen our oceans go from pristine to 170 trillion pieces of plastic. I give to www.4Ocean.com  because those two surfer boys now clean up beaches in 40 countries, and millions of tons of plastic debris. You can donate for plastic bracelets or really cool hats. I wear my hat with pride. Each time you give, they clean up 10 pounds of plastic from the oceans and beaches.  So, if you care about our oceans, you're invited to become part of the solutions on our planet home.

Do you love cats and dogs? I do!  Well in the past 30 years, around 2.7 million dogs and cats are euthanized annually. Sandi and I drove through Kanab, Utah five years ago, where they feature www.bestfriendsforeversanctuary.com or www.tripadvisor.com . They work to bring down those "kill rates" to less than 100,000, and to zero by 2030.  They educate the public on spaying and neutering our animals.  We all need to pitch in to help our fine furry "best friends" that give us comfort in our daily lives.  They also feature a pet cemetery with pictures of thousands of pets' ashes.  A groundkeeper said that she thought many of the pets were buried with their owners ashes, too.  That's the power of friendship with your best friend.

Yes, I give to Nature Conservancy (www.tnc.org)  to preserve millions of acres of land and habitat for future generations to enjoy. I've been a member for 40 years. Investing in land and animal habitat is investing in your children's future. We need to protect our planet home. It's the only one we've got.

For sure, I give to Ocean Conservancy, Save the Whales, Save the Dolphins, Save our Reefs, Save the Galapagos Islands, Save the Poudre River, Save Our National Parks.

There is an organization for every possible concern you might have for our civilization. Pick a few and make a big or small donation on a regular basis.

This is our civilization. There's been some big names who have created incredible organizations for you in your lifetime. J.D. Rockefeller saved the redwoods. Dale Carnegie gave us libraries. Jane Goodall gave us greater environmental protections. Rachel Carson helped us stop poisoning the Natural World with her book, Silent Spring. Many others gave money and time to make America the most graceful and beautiful continent on Earth. You can do your part, too.
