What About Your Bicycle?
Written by Frosty Wooldridge Subject: TravelThe road long-traveled. The bike that carried someone through their youth and into their lives. The tires worn out over time. The paint faded and nicked. The seat torn and cracked. The spokes rusted and bent. The basket of flowers offering beauty. The smile on each girls face as she rode this bike toward hers and its destiny. Now it's resting in this bicycle graveyard. Its beauty continues.
You owned one, too. You rode it with great joy. To school, to the store, to the pond, to your friends house. Maybe your dad or mom rode with you on a Sunday after church.
What is it about a bicycle that captures a person's sense of freedom? How does that steel frame with two metal rims wrapped in rubber carry so many people to so many places around the world?
Have your ridden your bicycle lately? Did it take you to the lake to catch fish? Did you ride it over railroad tracks on your way to baseball practice?
If you haven't ridden a bike for awhile because the world races too fast, then stop, jump on one and feel the sheer ecstasy of love, freedom, friends, sunshine, blue skies, flowers and white clouds skittering across the sky.
These may be difficult times, and at the same time, we get to slow down and enjoy the scent of flowers beside the road. We get to grab a piece of our youths via riding our bicycle. We get to feel our muscles pulsing under our skin. We feel the rush of blood racing through our bodies. One speed or 21 speed, a bicycle offers endless beauty on an endless road. Fall in love with your life all over again by riding your bicycle.
"You like to ride a bike? You ever thought about riding across a continent? Well, you gotta' read this book. It splashes across your mind like a sunny day with raindrops that make you feel good. You can't help but follow Wooldridge's lead and do it yourself. I don't care if you're 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 or 80; you can ride your bicycle across America or the world. Wooldridge even provides you two fantastic chapters that show you which bike to buy, how to outfit yourself and pack lists that you can use to ride in America or around the world. This is the best damned book on bicycle adventure I've ever read." Roger McClendon
"At my advanced age of 75, I'm ready to hop on my bike to travel across America. What convinced me? This book! If a bunch of my fellow senior citizens can ride their bikes across America and have that much fun, well hell, I can do it, too. I want to make a statement near the end of my time on this planet. I am going to bicycle across America. This book will be in my panniers the entire way." George Strucker
"Any baby boomers out there, about 80 million of you, who worked your butts off your whole lives bringing up a family, paid the bills and did what you were supposed to do? It's time for you to live your own dreams. If you love bicycling, this band of old guys knows how to have a good time. But it's more than cycling: the author encourages retirees to follow their dreams by backpacking, skiing, sailing, canoeing, painting, pottery making and just about anything that turns you on to your own life. On this journey, these cycling dudes pedal, sing, camp, joke and they laugh a lot. What did I like best about Wooldridge' tale? He showed me that I can pedal my own bike across the country. This is a hell of a great read. Buy it. Learn from it. Then, go do it yourself. He's got everything you need to know at the back of his book. It'll be the best thing you've done in your life. And, he tells you how to buy an E-bike with electric assist, so your wife and you can enjoy cycling adventures together. You truly will live, as Wooldridge said, 'On the edge of wonder.'" Herman Jackson
"This book brings incredible energy to any reader, male or female, young or old. It's got so much wisdom and inspiration. I couldn't help but feel like I could conquer the world while reading this book. It really delves into living at what the author calls, "high vibrational frequency living." When you create adventures in your life, big or small, short term or long term, you live on that "edge of wonder" that the author speaks about. I didn't realize it until I finished the book. That's why I read it twice to cement his concepts into my mind. Great reading and compelling prose." Harold Morgan
