The Level of Misinformation

Every time I look into the issue of global warming and potential results, I find a plethora of misleading information promoted by various government organizations and contractors and a blatant effort to cover-up various aspects of either the research and/or published conclusions.

Listening to Ex-Pres. Jimmy Carter the last night, 12/09/10, led me to look up something that he said.  Near the end of the interview he mentioned his concern with global warming. He stated, what he thought was a fact, that the sea levels in and around Norfolk, VA, which just happens to be where I was born, a community on the Atlantic Ocean that serves a Naval Base, had risen by 16” causing neighborhoods to be abandoned.  That sounded like BS so I did a little research and several sources with basically the following  contention were found:

Article: AS THE SEA RISES, OUR LAND IS SINKING SCIENTISTS SAY THE MID-ATLANTIC COAST IS SINKING INTO THE OCEAN, WITH THE CHESAPEAKE BAY REGION GOING DOWN 1 INCH EVERY 8 YEARS.(FRONT)

The way the various articles were written was that they were insinuation that the sinking land is due to rising sea levels so I did a little more research on sea levels and determining elevation.  From the U.S. NOA website, I found this:

While GPS has revolutionized surveying, the vertical accuracy of GPS measurements (elevations) has not been as good as the horizontal accuracy (latitude and longitude).

If the land is sinking and the oceans are thought to be rising, how do you know how much each are moving in relation to one another? Come to find out major rejoins of the planet are in fact sinking called subsiding and it has nothing to do with so-claimed rising sea levels.

I have lived in So. Florida on the coast since 1955 and I do not personally see any significant change in sea levels and I’ve been on the water a good deal. People say the beaches here are no longer as large as they use to be but that is another historic problem.  The number of storms and hurricanes is a major contributory factor, in addition to the Gulfstream, to beach erosion and there is no consistency to these natural phenomenon. The recent storms since 2000 have put a great deal of pressure on beach erosion but the last couple of years we’ve had no major storms, so the beaches are starting to come back. Come to find out top scientist, like Dr. Nils Axel Morner, don’t even believe that there is any trend in either rising or lower sea levels and whatever has occurred is miniscule.

I found these: Dr. Mörner was president of the International Union for Quaternary Research’s (INQUA) Commission on Sea-Level Changes and Coastal Evolution (1999-2003). Its research proved that the catastrophic predictions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), based on computer models of the effects of global warming, are “nonsense.” http://www.climatechangefacts.info/ClimateChangeDocuments/NilsAxelMornerinterview.pdf

Another skeptical scientist made headlines recently by publicly resigning from the American Physics Society (APS). Dr. Harold Lewis of UC Santa Barbara resigned because he thought the process by which the APS made an official statement on AGW was secretive and flawed. From his letter it seems he is not attacking the science behind climate projections as much as the process by which the IPCC and other organizations come to climate pronouncements. We know from the climate-gate emails that there was a deliberate effort to silence some scientists and to stonewall freedom of information requests. Perhaps this is some of the blowback. - Meteorologist Justin Loew

The study of sea level changes is a very debated issue. When areas such as Holland, Hong Kong and the mid-Atlantic coast are subsiding, the difficulties of a specific determination is even more difficult.  When you have a constantly varying action such as temperature and sea levels, getting a weighted average or other significant determination by direct measurement provides little discernable conclusion.  Guys like Dr. Morner use very complicated physics and mathematics to achieve their results. You and I can only sit back and attempt to determine who is telling the truth and who is lying. Apparently, even a former President of the United States may be fooled by a constant group of government employees and contractors whom use suspect data to support their positions. A conflict of interest exist between those people  and government who uses this type of propaganda to raise taxes and redistribute them, which is what has caused the recent financial meltdown.  Even though global warming and rising water levels caused by human being have been shown to be a hoax, the constant mention of it by much of the media, is causing many people including ex-President Jimmy Carter to except it as truth, when there is a good chance it is not.
